Vaser Liposuction Patient Story

vaser liposuction in polandMy experience has been nothing but positive from my perspective I’d dreamt of vaser lipo for about 2-3yrs after a friend mentioned it to me after watching This Morning!

All the UK firms treated me like some meat on a conveyor belt and a mobile cash machine! It was only after a friend mentioned looking at having surgery abroad that I stumbled upon secret surgery.

The difference in care, support, price, friendships etc since discovering Secret Surgery has changed my life. As for the lipo, I wanted to get rid of my muffin top and marsupial pouch (as I called it) after having 2 kids in quick succession. So, much to the shock of all my friends (thanks mainly to the shock horror stories from the media) I headed out to Poland alone for the procedure.

I was so confident in Angela and Secret Surgery, I knew there was nothing to fear. The apartment was amazing, gr8 location and right in the city centre to venture round. Jack & Aga were fabulous and always contactable as was Angela. The hospital was jaw dropping amazing. Not all the nurses speak English so could sometimes be difficult in communicating but there was always an English speaking nurse somewhere on duty.

Dr W is a man of few words…. But a surgeon genius. He removed 2.5litres of fat and the results were immediate. I must admit for me there was considerable discomfort immediately after surgery and for 2wks after and the corset they tell you to wear, I wore for much longer (day & night) for probably 4-6wks but that was just a personal thing.

I used arnica salve every day to reduce bruising. I also massage my abdo every day and do regular exercises specifically in that area. When I first looked into this, I kind of ignored everyone who said this procedure isn’t a quick fix… It is and it isn’t, I still invest my time and energy into looking after the gr8 work of Dr W (the scars have virtually disappeared unless u look really close!) and 8mths on the results are as good as the day after surgery.

You’ll experience highs and lows after surgery as there are points during early recovery where you go a bit lumpy and you think to yourself ‘what the hell have I done’ but again, for me Angela was there throughout my journey giving insight, advice, reassurance etc… and still is; the care doesn’t just stop once the surgery is complete and the plane back on UK soil.

I hope this brief introduction of my experience helps others reach the right decision as to whether this procedure is for you or not. I cannot fault the company, team, hospital, clinicians (and anyone else involved behind the scenes.

Real People: The Risks Explained!

the risks explained real people magazineThere have been rumours about the risks and dangers of surgery abroad for a long time, and the recent surgery abroad feature in Real People magazine has done its best to put some of these rumours to rest. Want to know the difference between FACT and FICTION? Read on below to find out what our favourite untrue surgery abroad rumours are:

  • Patients are rich jet-setters. FALSE. Most of our patients are normal working people on normal working wages.
  • Surgery abroad often goes wrong. FALSE. In a Leeds University study, only two participants weren’t happy with the results.
  • Patients choose clinics based in countries where they can speak the language. FALSE. Actually, most patients aren’t that well-travelled and usually speak only English.

If you want to know more about not just Secret Surgery, but surgery abroad in general, then be sure to pick up the latest copy of Real People magazine, which should be in your local shops! We’ve spilled all the gossip on what overseas surgery is REALLY like!

Real People: Savings on surgery abroad

savings on surgery abroad real people magazineOne of the sections in our latest feature in Real People magazine detailed the savings that you can make by opting to have surgery abroad rather than in the UK. The feature gave some fantastic examples of surgery costs in the UK and elsewhere, and shows just how much you can save if you put your mind to it – and just how much UK surgeons really milk you for all you’ve got!

Some of the best examples from the article are:

  • Liposuction in the Czech Republic costs, on average, £1,800 compared to £3,540 in the UK.
  • A tummy tuck in Poland would cost £2,096 compared to £5,660 in the UK.
  • A facelift in Poland would cost £2,220 compared to £6,950 in the UK.

These examples are all from Europe, but the article also details the costs if you want to fly out to Thailand or Malaysia. Of course, it’s cheaper to travel to Europe than Asia, but if you’re desperate for an Eastern holiday then why not combine the two?

Hopefully this feature will go some way to convincing the general public that surgery abroad isn’t something to be avoided – and it shows that it’s not just countries like Poland which have cheaper prices than the UK – just about everywhere does!

How to be a discerning surgery abroad customer

woman-thinkingI use the word ‘customer’ in the title rather than ‘patient’ because it’s important to remember that you’re still a customer of the clinic you choose to undergo your surgery with. In other words, you’re the one who’s paying: so make sure you’re getting what you want out of it.

When you’re considering surgery abroad, it’s important to do your research and find a clinic that you feel confident and comfortable with. This isn’t just about checking that the clinic has done good work in the past, or making sure that their surgeons are well qualified – it’s about finding people you can talk to while you’re there.

You’ll be surprised how much of a difference it makes, being able to chat, ask questions, and be put at ease during your stay and before your surgery. We’ve compiled a list of questions to ask your chosen clinic which should help you to find somewhere which will make you feel, if not at home, then in good hands:

  • Does my surgeon speak English? If not, will there be a translator available?
  • Will I get to meet other British patients during my stay?
  • How much help will I be given when it comes to getting around, shopping, etc.?
  • How nice/comfortable are the surgery facilities?
  • Can I choose my own accommodation?
  • Will I be given a contact to call if I get stuck or upset?

This isn’t a comprehensive list. Have a think yourself about what you think you might need when you’re there, and just ask away – the clinic which ticks the most boxes is likely a good one to go for.

Going for surgery can be scary, and going for surgery in a foreign country even worse. It doesn’t have to be hard, though, with the right support in place. To take the next step and receive a FREE personalised info pack and quote please visit www.SecretSurgery.co.uk or call 0843 289 4 982 or email Info@SecretSurgery.co.uk

Money, money, money: how important is the cost of your surgery?

woman-money-cash-coinsOne of the biggest selling points of Secret Surgery is that we offer high quality procedures for a fraction of the price that you would pay for on Harley Street. However, not everyone is sold on the cost of our surgeries – and we still face cynicism from the British media, despite our excellent track record.

So that leads us to the question – how important is money when you’re considering cosmetic surgery? Should you let a cheap cost put you off? Should you let a high price tag twist your arm?

Well, the honest answer is that it all depends. We always stress how important it is to ask your surgeon or consultant about anything and everything that concerns you, and money is definitely included in this!

If the prices you’ve been quoted seem much cheaper than you’ve been told elsewhere, then it’s important to find out why. If the clinic is skimping on quality, experience or safety to save you money, then no – that’s not a good saving! It might end up costing you more in the long run, and, of course, your health is far more valuable than your savings.

However, some overseas surgeries – including ours – can offer cheaper surgeries without compromising on our work. The cost of living in many other parts of Europe is much lower than it is in the UK, which means that the the cost of medical care is somewhat lower, too. This doesn’t mean the medical care isn’t good, though – it’s just economics.

Likewise, this doesn’t mean that the care you get in more expensive clinics is any better. Just as you’ll pay more to rent a flat in London than you would in Wroclaw, you’ll pay more to rent a surgeon, too!

BBC5 Live – covering Secret Surgery abroad!

2168639You might remember that just a couple of weeks ago we were featured in an article by the Guardian about surgery abroad, focusing on the reasons why more and more patients are looking overseas for their surgery. Well, there’s even more good news – BBC Radio 5 featured a segment this week about surgery abroad as well!

The feature discusses the general trend of surgery abroad, and also focuses on a hospital in Poland which offers low-cost surgery to patients from the UK, among other countries. In an interview with the hospital manager, it’s clear that the people running this Polish hospital know how to run a safe, secure facility. During one part of the interview, the interviewer even notes how the Polish hospital features laminate as opposed to carpet, which is more often seen in the UK. Laminate is easier to clean than carpet, and thus actually a much more hygienic choice!

The feature also includes a short interview with a panel of experts at the end. To listen to the Radio 5 feature you can click on this link. It’s nice to see that surgery abroad is getting some positive press over here in the UK – for far too long the media have been too focused on believing old myths about overseas surgeries being unclean and sub-par; hopefully features like this will help to show the people of the UK that this is no longer the case.

Angela Chouaib to feature in Surgery Abroad documentary

angela chouaib secret surgery woman magazineJust over a week ago, our dear Angela – the MD and founder of Secret Surgery, if you don’t already know, spent the day being filmed by a documentary team filming a show based on following a patients journey through surgery abroad- and it’s all about good folk like you and me, who opt for surgery abroad because it’s more affordable, better, and friendlier!

Angela’s obviously a great person to ask about the details of how these companies work and why they’re so attractive, but patients also play a big part in answering these questions. The documentary follows some patients who have chosen to undergo surgery abroad in Poland, exploring their experiences – the highs and the lows – and really looking at what is offered by companies like ours.

We’re glad to see surgery tourism getting some good press – there’s been a lot of that, lately – and we’re looking forward to seeing the show air. We don’t want to give too many details away about what’s going to be revealed in the documentary, but suffice it to say we think you all should watch it!

Keep reading for more details of what to expect, and watch this space – we’ll let you know before it airs.
